Responsibilities

Under direction of the Registered Nurse, the Mental Health Specialist (MHS) provides direct patient care and participates in therapeutic milieu. The successful candidate will:

• Provide accurate and timely documentation of AFS, progress notes, and observation sheets.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Identify patient behaviors that contribute to crisis development and utilize non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate crisis situations.
• Participate in planning and implementation of patient groups.
• Perform active milieu assessment while assigned to checks, with particular attention to safety concerns.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living.
